I look backwards in time to another July. Her blonde hair, those dark blue eyes. Times seemed complicated then, but those same times seem simpler in hindsight. I replay an older Taylor Swift song, a country one. And it’s like I’m standing there on the suburban streets of once upon another decade – before you, before adulthood.
I once heard that the power of country music was the way it could transport you back to another time. And tonight, I realize not much has changed since I was twelve years old in one aspect: a hunger to be among those glowing skyscrapers rising into the city night.
